british music experience
March 2022
Glasgow Clyde College
BRIEF: Create a logo for The British Music Experience museum, as well as some promotional materials for one of the exhibits, with focus on a specific era. The tone and style was requested to be informative, friendly and exciting.
DEVELOPMENT: 1962-1966 introduced the world to what would later become legendary bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and many more. This era is also strongly associated with specific design styles such as Pop art and Psychedelic typography which still stand out in todays evolved world. These would influence my sketches and ideas for the 60’s exhibit, however the logo was not to be influenced by any one time period, and instead be an overall representation of the excitement and energy of music all together.
FINAL: The acronym "BME" is the main focus and is created using vertical bars of varying thicknesses. The design gives the impression of a sound wave, which ties into the musical theme and the bars are arranged to form the letters in a visually striking way, emphasising rhythm and movement. A gradient transition from pink to orange is used, creating a vibrant and energetic feel, and the gradient effect also enhances the sense of motion, as if the logo is pulsating. The black background helps the vibrant colours stand out, giving it a sleek and modern apperance.
These flyers merge retro music culture with modern design trends through the use of psychedelic typography and bold, contrasting colours that make the text pop. The playful typography, vibrant colours, and historical references make these flyers engaging, nostalgic, and humerous.
