Mind crafts

BRIEF: This was a self-initiated project, meaning it was up to each student to come up with their own brief. We were asked to pick something that shows our strength as a designer, and the work should be current and up-to-date, as well as tackling or raising awareness for a current problem.

QUESTION: When looking at the 2024 mental health statistics of the United Kingdom it is clear the people in our country are suffering.

Figures state that in 2024 “How to reduce stress” is searched on average every 10 minutes. Reports show that young people aged 16-24 are the most affected by mental health struggles, with 23.5% describing their mental health as either bad or the worst it’s ever been.

What can you do as a designer to help young people of all genders, aged 16-24, based in the UK, cope with mental health struggles?

SOLUTION: Drawing from my personal knowledge of methods I use to help me stay grounded when times get hard, I began to explore the idea of creating a mindfulness brand that supplies activities and crafts as a way to promote good mental health and positive coping strategies.

ANSWER: Mind Crafts is a monthly subscription service that delivers a new crafting box straight to your door each month. The branding for this has to be happy, stimulating, engaging, friendly, empathetic, supportive, encouraging, informative, inspirational and authentic.
